Following a sold out award ceremony this year, the 2017 Gold Coast Music Awards (GCMA) is set to soar from 350 to some 3,000 attendees in just its third year through a bold new partnership with Surfers Paradise Alliance, just announced this week.

The bangin' new partnership will see the annual awards ceremony take place on Surfers Paradise beach, Thursday, April 27, right before the Surfers Paradise LIVE music festival kicks off with headline act, Australian and international pop sensations, The Veronicas.

“We’ll have a massive stage at the end of the mall where we’ll showcase some of the best Gold Coast bands,” said GCMA co-founder, Chloe Popa. “And adjacent to that, we’ll have our VIP marquee to present our awards in front of the music industry. This move means we can open the awards up to a much bigger audience – Gold Coasters will be able to come along for free and discover their new favourite local band.”

The partnership with Surfers Paradise Alliance (SPA) will also see a greater number of Gold Coast bands included throughout the LIVE programming, which runs from Friday, April 28 through to Sunday, April 30.

Surfers Paradise Alliance CEO Mike Winlaw said the initial three-year partnership reflected SPA’s dedication to the local Gold Coast music industry and its confidence in the calibre of artists coming through the Gold Coast Music Awards. “We've been very impressed with the calibre of local artists recognised by the Awards, each very deserving of joining high profile acts like The Veronicas, so teaming up is the perfect alignment for both organisations,” he said.

GCMA co-founder and director Samantha Morris said the partnership would give the awards a greater opportunity to get Gold Coast acts in front of new audiences in Surfers Paradise specifically to experience music. “We’re thrilled to take the Music Awards program to the next level and to be working with venues and partners from across the city to showcase everything that makes the Gold Coast music scene so unique,” she said.

When we launched the awards in 2015 and it was such a success, people asked where we saw the event in 10 years’ time. Straight away I said on the beach at Surfers Paradise, "I don’t think we’ll be there in our third year!"
